Band Classes

We start band in the 6th grade (Beginning Band) with the following instrument groups:
Woodwind instruments include:
Flute
Oboe
Clarinet
Bass Clarinet
Alto Sax
Bassoon
 
Brass Instruments include:
French Horn
Trumpet
Trombone
Baritone
Tuba
 

Percussion Instruments include:

A percussion kit: This includes bells and a practice pad. Note: students will spend the first semester primarily on bells.

 

You can actually start beginning band up until the 8th grade. After one full year of band and the approval of the director you will be moved up to the intermediate band. The advanced band is for those students who have completed two full years of band.

Beginning Band:
This band teaches the student the basics needed to learn a musical instrument and the foundation of reading music. This band performs three times a year. Those months are December, March, and May. This band uses the method book Standard of Excellence Book 1 by Bruce Pearson.

Intermediate Band:

This band is an extension of the beginning band. The students are now becoming more involved with the learning aspects of their chosen instrument. This band is combined with the Advanced Band to become the Alta Vista performing band. This band is called upon to perform in parades and local functions around town. This band uses the method book: Standard of Excellence Book II by Bruce pearson.

 

Advanced Band:
This band is for those students who have completed two years of band or have proven their ability to perform at the advanced level. This band is combined with the Intermediate Band. This band uses the method book: Standard of Excellence Book III by Bruce Pearson.

The Alta Vista Band is an award-winning program. Our students work hard to maintain a positive attitude and good social ethics. We welcome you to march and play along side of us.
